MALEGRA PRO-100 is a generic drug marketed by Sunrise Remedies Pvt. Ltd. It has sildenafil citrate as the main active pharmaceutical ingredient. It is commonly prescribed for the management of Erectile Dysfunction (ED) in men. ED is a condition whereby men are unable to achieve a satisfactory erection. It is one of the most common diseases of sexual disorders which can be easily managed on an outpatient basis. MALEGRA PRO-100-100 is a prescription only medication available in the strength doses of 50 and 100 mg. It has to be taken only after proper consultation with a doctor and, like all medications, has some adverse effects which can be minimized if certain precautions are taken. No doubt, the introduction of Sildenafil has revolutionized the treatment of ED, but over the years, different companies have released a myriad of generic brands and more data from clinical studies concerning Sildenafil have emerged. HOW IT WORKS:

Sildenafil citrate causes the inhibition of the enzyme phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5). In the erectile tissues of the penis, there is increased blood flow secondary to the release of cGMP and nitric oxide during sexual stimulation. This increased flow causes erection of the penile tissues. It is CGMP and nitric oxide that maintains the vasodilatation of the blood vessels, therefore, by inhibiting PDE5, cGMP remains longer in the blood and causes prolonged erection.

By relaxing the smooth muscles of blood vessels and maintaining blood flow to the penis, sildenafil ensures continued erection for a satisfactory sexual intercourse. Taking Sildenafil, at least 1 hour prior to any sexual activity, men with ED are able to maintain an erection. However, Sildenafil is a temporary treatment for ED, not a permanent cure.

DOSAGE:

Depending on the circumstances, the daily dose of MALEGRA PRO-100 can range from 25 mg to 100 mg. In cases of kidney and liver impairment or age more than 65 years, it is better to start with 25 mg after consultation with a doctor. Otherwise, a starting dose of 50-100 mg is acceptable. The maximum dose that should not be exceeded in 24 hours is 100mg.

SIDE EFFECTS:

No drug is free from side effects. In the case of Sildenafil citrate, most side effects are secondary to vasodilatation in other organs of the body. DRUG INTERACTIONS:

It is strictly prohibited to consume Sildenafil along with other vasodilating agents, especially Nitrates like amyl nitrate and nitroglycerin. The synergistic effect of both drugs can cause dangerous and potentially fatal hypotension. Furthermore, people on antiviral therapy with protease inhibitors should also lower their usual dose of MALEGRA PRO-100.
